Dear Dudley: How do I deal with mandatory volunteerism (mandateerism) at the office?

DEAR DUDLEY:
My boss recently asked everyone in our department to volunteer our time to a program that gives clothes to those in poverty. Our department will apparently help organize clothes, and the date, time and place is already scheduled. While I fully support the idea of programs like this, I don't really want to go. Don't get me wrong; I have no problem with volunteering my time. I do it quite a bit. I want to do it on my own time because volunteering is a personal decision and I don't really want to volunteer with my coworkers. Most of them are annoying and I don't get a long with them. What should I do? I feel like I'm being forced to go and I will be treated poorly by my boss if I choose not to join everyone else in the department.

Sincerely,

NOT A JERK BUT I FEEL LIKE ONE
